Only a few contemporary witnesses still remember the early years of Wolfsburg. Reinhold Kulbe (82) is one of them. His brother Adam Kulbe is the grandfather of the owner of CRK-Classik (born 1900), the first car mechanic in the Fulda district. At that time still as a trained plumber, because the apprenticeship as a car mechanic did not yet exist.
Carsten Kulbe, owner and founder of CRK-Classik, noticed his passion for cars as a very young boy. His grandfather Adam told him instead of fairy tales about cars and took him to the workshop in Fulda. At the age of 6, “klein Carsten” already knew what differentiates an independent wheel suspension from a star axle and that the Opel family installed a de Dyon rear axle in their top model.
At the age of 18 he bought his first car, a rundown Mini-Cooper, with hard-earned money in his grandfather’s car workshop. With a lot of work and attention to detail, the young Mr. Kulbe has transformed the car back into a real gem.
Mr. Kulbe remained true to his passion for beauty, elegance and functionality, studied architecture and became a respected architect far beyond his hometown Schlüchtern. –
But cars remained his passion, at the age of 21 he bought his first sports car, a Fiat Abarth and at 28 a Porsche 911.
In 2000 Mr. Kulbe started collecting and restoring cars professionally.
